For NYFW SS27, 3rd Space Productions led production, technical direction, backstage operations, rehearsal, and showcalling for Tang Chi Couture in collaboration with L.E.R. PR.

Presented at Freehand New York, the runway brought approximately 25 looks into an intimate salon-style environment — requiring coordination across scenic, lighting, HMU, casting, wardrobe, photography, PR, and venue operations.

The objective was intimacy without sacrificing control.

OVERVIEW

For NYFW SS27, 3rd Space Productions led production, technical direction, backstage operations, rehearsal, and showcalling for Tang Chi Couture in collaboration with L.E.R. PR.

Presented at Freehand New York, the runway brought approximately 25 looks into an intimate salon-style environment — requiring coordination across scenic, lighting, HMU, casting, wardrobe, photography, PR, and venue operations.

The objective was intimacy without sacrificing control.

PRODUCTION ARCHITECTURE

The production operated across three connected environments.

Georgia Room became Hair + Makeup and backstage preparation.

Calico Bar supported collection staging, model lineup, and lookbook photography.

The Studio became the runway.

Rather than forcing a traditional linear runway into the venue, the floor plan was configured around an intimate U-shaped progression — bringing guests closer to the collection while preserving a defined photographic axis and sufficient clearance for garment movement.

The architecture became part of the show.

SCENIC DIRECTION & TRANSFORMATION

Working within the existing architecture of Freehand New York, the space was transformed from a hotel lounge into an intimate runway environment.

Furniture was cleared and existing elements were selectively concealed, while draping, sculptural florals and lighting reshaped the room around the collection.

3SP coordinated the scenic direction with the designer, set designer and venue — balancing the creative vision with installation restrictions, budget and a compressed load-in window.

COMPRESSED PRODUCTION

The production day required multiple departments to move simultaneously within a limited venue window.

Scenic installation, lighting, HMU, collection preparation, photography, seating, and technical setup all converged before rehearsal.

The schedule was structured around hard operational handoffs:

Scenic complete.

Runway clear.

Model rehearsal.

Dress + Tech.

Lookbook.

Final lineup.

Show.

Each transition protected the next.

RUNWAY PACING & SHOWCALLING

With approximately 25 models moving through the runway, pacing was engineered against the physical route and available music duration.

Model releases were called live at controlled intervals to maintain separation between looks while keeping continuous movement through the space.

Backstage sequencing, music playback, model releases, and finale progression were coordinated through a single showcalling structure.

Once the first model stepped onto the runway, timing became the system

BEHIND THE SHOW

Production, rehearsal, backstage and showcalling.

OUTCOME

Models walk the finale of Tang Chi Couture’s NYFW SS27 runway show at Freehand New York.

The production delivered an intimate NYFW runway with approximately 120 guests while maintaining control across a compressed schedule and multi-room backstage operation.

Creative, technical, and operational teams moved through one coordinated production structure — from load-in through final model release and strike.

The audience experienced the collection.

The production remained behind it.

STUDIO PERSPECTIVE

We believe intimacy requires more control, not less.

When the audience is close to the runway, every transition becomes visible.

Movement matters.

Timing matters.

Space matters.

Our role is to create the structure that allows the creative vision to feel effortless.

Working with 3rd Space Productions for my couture label TANG CHI COUTURE’s SS27 show was truly an amazing experience.
